Deeana Nevills is a new, friendly face that you will see in the school this year. She will be doing many different tasks, but focusing on helping our school improve. After being drawn to Iowa, she said, “I had previously worked in a job that was similar, but this position sounded like it would be more challenging and rewarding.” She started her career in the US Air Force and spent many years in public safety and security.
Nevills is originally from Iowa but has moved away and visits her family there during the summer. Some of the places she has lived include Massachusetts, Texas, Colorado, and Pennsylvania. She decided to move here and look for a job. Nevills said, “I found one that looked interesting, applied, and got the position for the Atlantic School District.” Her official title is School-Based Interventionist.
As the school’s interventionist, she will have many responsibilities. “I assist with attendance for all of the schools. I conduct home visits and pickups. I have check-ins with students. I mentor, advocate, and support students and staff. I collaborate and support many departments for all the schools, and I work with the Juvenile Court Officer with students on probation,” said Nevills. Students and staff can expect great things from her. She said, “I am someone that you can count on. I am caring, trustworthy, and dependable!”
She has many hobbies outside of her regular day job. Nevills likes to spend time with her family and friends, work out, and drive her sports cars (fast). She said, “I collect antiques and art, love to travel, go to concerts, try new restaurants, and love the outdoors.” With all of her hobbies and interests, she is an easy person to connect with. Nevills said, “I PRAY hard, I WORK hard, and I PLAY hard!”
