Trojans get caught in Cyclone

Senior Preston Myers weaves through Cyclone defenders.

by Anthony Robinson

The Atlantic Trojan soccer team hosted the Harlan Cyclones Friday, April 29.  In terribly windy conditions, the Trojans were defeated 3-0.

With the loss the Trojans fell to 4-8 on the season.

Less than 10 minutes into the first half, Cyclone senior Andrew McLaughlin scored the first goal of the game.  The goal was a wake-up call for the Trojans. The Trojans picked up the defense and held the Cyclones scoreless for 25 minutes before senior Trent Wendt scored the second goal for Harlan.

Senior forward Preston Myers nearly put the Trojans back within a goal, but Myers’ shot with less than 10 minutes left in the half, hit the top cross bar.

The Trojans were on the attack  numerous times in the first half, but were unable to get any shots past the Cyclones’ goalkeeper.

Sophomore goalkeeper J.T. Baker made many saves during the first half, keeping the game within reach.  The Cyclones led 2-0 at the half.

Both teams were able to get great looks at the goal early in the first half, but neither team was able to find the back the net.  The first score of the second half came via a “header” with 22 minutes remaining in the game.

Senior Nick Hadfield was hit in the face with the ball within 10 feet of the goal.  As the action shifted to Hadfield on the ground, the ball slipped right past Baker. Harlan took a 3-0 lead.

The Trojans were unable to play catch up, falling to the Cyclones 3-0.

The Trojans  finished a long week of games with a 1-3 record.
