Musician Changes her Tune…to English

by Olivia Petersen

When you walk into English teacher Elizabeth Huggins’ class, you can expect to find her in a cheerful and happy mood, excited about the current class plans. You may be surprised, though, to find out that Huggins didn’t always want to teach English.

Elizabeth Huggins originally went to college to be a music teacher, but she realized that English was a class she was more interested in teaching. When she switched her major, she had to give up all her music scholarships.

One of the reasons Huggins didn’t consider teaching English  in the first place may be because when she was still in high school, her English teacher told Huggins he wanted her to teach English, and Huggins  laughed at him.  But her attitude changed during college.

Huggins said, ”If I hadn’t made the choice to teach English, I wouldn’t be teaching at all.”

Currently Huggins’ classes are reading short stories, and her Core 2 class made a video “If My Inside Was My Outside.”

It was a pleasure to read the article by Olivia Petersen on Elizabeth Huggins. It gave one the warm feeling that she held Huggins in high regard. The title was “catchy” and the story most interesting. What is more inspiring than to think students admire and respect their teachers? Keep stories like that on the front page! Janet Hoegh
