The Trojan Guard is preparing to take the field Sept. 18 at the first home game. This game is set to take place in the newly renovated Trojan Bowl and will be one of two that Atlantic hosts this season.
On Sept. 18 the band will perform the set Women in Pop featuring the songs “Havana” by Camila Cabello, “Bad Guy” by Billie Ellish, and “Good as Hell” by Lizzo. During halftime of the Homecoming game on Oct. 8, the Trojan Guard will perform its second set based on “Guardians of the Galaxy.” It will include three songs: “Mr. Blue Sky” by Electric Light Orchestra, “Hooked on a Feeling” by Blue Swede, and “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell.
The Trojan Guard has two drum majors, seniors Oliva Engler and Reagan Watson. Engler said that the band is doing well, despite the large number of seniors that graduated last year. She is most excited for Homecoming week. “I really like the Homecoming Parade,” Engler said.
Band Director Jared O’Donnell said that due to COVID-19 the band, “obviously had to make changes, but the kids responded well and we’re having fun playing the music.” O’Donnell and Engler agree that “Bad Guy” is their favorite song that will be performed this year.
There are 20 seniors in the Trojan Guard. They will be honored for their participation in marching band at Senior Night during Friday’s football game.
