At the school board meeting Tuesday, March 8, the calendar for the school year 2011-2012 was approved.
The beginning of the first semester is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 17. Is that a controversial time to start? Dexter Mcdermott, junior, shows steers at the Iowa State Fair, which takes place during that same week. Dexter stated, “It’s really our only family vacation and it (school) starts while we’re trying to show up there. The way Griswold does it is they start the week after it (state fair) and that helps us with getting back from it.”
Winter break is planned for Dec. 22- Jan. 3, with the start of the second semester starting Wednesday, Jan. 4.
2012 brings us a long spring break again, giving us March 15-20 off.
The 2012 seniors’ last day is Thursday, May 10 and graduation is May 13. May 17 is the official last day ending with a 2-hour early dismissal.
