Guys’ Prom Checklist

By Zoe Krueger

We heard you guys’ needed some help… And we’ve answered your call! Here’s a helpful layout for your prom to-do list.

6 Weeks Before

Visit a rental shop to pick out your tux. Make sure you get all the necessary accessories at the tux shop (vest or cummerbund, shoes, tie, belt).

Decide who pays for what with your date.

Find out what kind of corsage your date wants.

1 Month Before

Brainstorm pre- and post-prom activities with your friends and your date.

Stop by your local florist to actually pick out a corsage.

Talk to your parents about prom night curfew and plans, just so there are no surprises.

2 Weeks Before

Double-check your prom vehicle is clean and ready.

Get a haircut!

Pick out a nice cologne (keep it simple).

The Day Before

Write down all the information you’ll need for prom, what to take, where to go, etc.

Get a decent night’s sleep.

The Day of the Prom

Pick up your date’s corsage and stash it in the fridge.

Shave.

Clip and clean your nails.

Style your hair (but don’t overload on hair products).

Pack up your prom essentials: money, keys, cell phone, camera, corsage, and anything else you need.

You’re all set! Party time!

Great list, Zoe! I’ll add a few items: 1) Practice a firm handshake and “How do you do?” for meeting your date’s parents. 2) Think through your manners (opening the car door, chewing with your mouth closed). 3) Practice saying, “You look great” until you can say it without stammering.
