The Atlantic-Cam wrestling team traveled to Marion, IA for the Loyd Shaffer Tournament on Saturday, Jan. 12. The wrestlers left after school on Friday and arrived later that night where they practiced and stayed overnight to avoid driving up early the next morning.

Wrestling began at 10 a.m. on Saturday, but only three wrestlers had first-round matches. At the conclusion of round two, Atlantic put nine of their twelve wrestlers in the semifinals. However, only three continued to the finals. Aybren Moore (113) and Cale Roller (220) fell just short and placed second, while Chase McLaren (138) took home a Loyd Shaffer Title. McLaren pinned Eli Rose of Grinnell in 3 minutes and 21 seconds to finish his day.

Four Trojans, including Garrett McLaren (106), Joe Weaver (120), Kadin Stutzman (145) and Connor Pellett (152), fought back for third place finishes. Steele McLaren (126), Chase Mullenix (170) and Devin McKay (195) placed fourth and Kenny Jimerson (160) placed fifth. The wrestlers finished the day with a team score of 211.5 and second place after battling back and forth with Williamsburg throughout the day, who claimed first with 219.5 points.

The Trojans will back in action with a home double dual on Thursday, Jan. 17, starting at 5:30 p.m.
