Getting to Know the Class of 2018: Cameron Watkins

Senior Spotlight featuring Cameron Watkins

Cameron Watkins enjoyed his last year at AHS lifting weights every other day and reading Rick Riordan books. His interest in Rick Riordan started when he read some of his books for the seventh grade English class taught by Heather Lundquist. Watkins thinks they are very interesting because they are mythology and said that his next favorite book would be “Chronicles of Kane.”

Watkins is the oldest of four siblings and when he was younger, he wanted to be a zoologist because he “really likes apes.” Watkins actually took a job working a concession stand and helping at the Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha last summer, but after his employment there he no longer wants to be a zoologist.

Computer work is where Watkins’s interests lie now. He said he learned how to build computers from his friend Isaac, and spends his free time playing games and looking up computer parts. By doing this, Watkins said he learns “more and more” about GPU/graphics cards and what he can do to improve the gaming systems to run faster and at a higher quality.

Watkins’s favorite game maker is “Bethesda,” because they make first-person shooters and RPG games that he enjoys. Some of his favorites include “Fallout,” “Dishonored Fall” and “Elder Squirrels.” He would like to go into the field of computer science as he advances to college but is undecided about which school he will attend.
