Getting to Know the Class of 2018: Benjamin Heath
Senior Spotlight featuring Benjamin Heath
May 7, 2018
When Benjamin Heath was in third grade, he told his mom all he wanted to do was help people and make them feel better. As Heath graduates, he is moving forward with that third-grade dream. He hopes to go through a four-year program and then medical school to become a geriatrician. Being in the medical field is something Heath always knew he had a knack for.
Beginning to work at the Heritage House after he started high school helped Heath realize his dream job of a doctor specializing in older patients. “It definitely sealed the deal for me to decide what I wanted to do for a career in the future,” Heath said. He already knew he wanted to help people, as it is something he can contribute.
Because Heath had already decided on his career choice, he chose to work on getting a head-start for his education by taking classes at IWCC. He continues to love his job more every day at the Heritage House, and a meaningful aspect of his work is getting to know the residents and building a personal relationship with them all. Heath earned his CNA to be further prepared, and it is an event he is most proud of because it “really showed how serious and interested” he was in the career.
Heath comes from a family of four including himself, his sister, his mom and his dad. During his free time, he enjoys walking at the quarry and hanging out with his friends. Heath has taken many camping trips with his family and the Colorado trips are his favorite because of all the memories they make together. Heath said he’ll always remember his sophomore and junior years of high school even though they “flew by way too quickly.”
