STATE WRESTLING UPDATE

All eight Trojan wrestlers who competed Wednesday evening will be wrestling again Thursday night.  Four of eight AHS wrestlers advanced on the winners’ side by winning their first round match-up, and the other four wrestlers went 1-1, advancing to the second round of the consolation bracket.

At 103 pounds, freshman Darrian Schwenke defeated James Wenzel of Mount Vernon, 5-0. Darrian faces Shadow Leshen of Albia tonight in the quarterfinals at 103.

At 125 pounds, junior Rob Young lost to Cole Anderson of Forest City, 8-2 in the preliminary round. In the first round of the consolation side of the bracket, Young defeated Taylor Brammer of Central Decator by fall. Young’s second-round opponent is yet to be determined.

At 130 pounds, senior Josh Perkins defeated Hunter Langley of Sergeant Bluff-Luton in a re-match from the sectional-duals at OA-BCIG.  Perkins will face Jared Hoefer from West Delaware, on the winner’s side Thursday evening.

At 140 pounds, senior Brad Schwenke defeated Cory Chapin of Denver-Tripoli, 7-4.  Schwenke will wrestle against Kyle Donlin of Sioux Center in the quarterfinals.

At 145 pounds, junior Rob Nichols was defeated in overtime 8-6 by Cody Fritz of Solon.  Nichols defeated Griffin Osing of Albia, 8-5 in the first round of the consolation bracket. Nichols second round match-up is yet to be determined.

At 160 pounds, junior Derek Stork pinned Trent Little of PCM-Monroe in less than a minute.  The win gave Stork his 100 career win.  Stork will face Nick Fuller from Independence in the quarterfinals of the 160-pounds bracket.

At 189 pounds, junior Tyler Doll was defeated 4-3.  In the first round of the consolation bracket, Doll defeated Richard England of Centerville 3-1, to advance to the second round.

At 285 pounds, junior Austin Conrad was defeated by Kody Waddell from Denver-Tripoli–in triple-overtime–7-5.  Conrad then went on to defeat Miah Back from Cherokee, 10-1.  Conrad will wrestle in the second round of the consolation bracket later this evening.

After the first day of wrestling the Trojans are tied for third place with 17 team points.
