Hanna Layland’s art can be seen around the school and in the display case. Layland spends most of her time working on paintings or drawing and one of her favorite pieces of artwork she has created is the “child portrait,” which took her about a month to complete. “It’s interesting seeing how real you can make something look,” Layland said. This piece made it into the State art competition in 2016. Layland said her upcoming project is to draw her cat Ruby, because “Ruby is my favorite pet.”

Layland is an only child and she moved to live with her grandma at just six years old. Her grandma is her role model and has played an important role in her life, teaching her many things, like being responsible for herself and how to be a good person. “No one could do a better job of raising me than her,” Layland said.

After high school, Layland has decided to become a nurse because she loves helping people. When she was little she wanted to be a vet because she always liked animals and wanted to help. Layland said she thinks “everyone wanted to be a vet when they were little; it was like their dream job.”

One of Layland’s favorite school memories was when the Trojans won the Homecoming game of the 2017 season. She said it was exciting because “it was for the first time in like six years.”

According to Layland, her room is her favorite place to be because it has all of her favorite things in it. Layland also loves to spend time with her three bunnies and her best friend and fellow senior, Lexi Grooms.
