Trojans Fall to Kuemper in a Nail Biter

On Monday, Dec. 18. The 3-3 Atlantic boys basketball team traveled to Carroll to take on the 4-1 Kuemper Catholic Knights. The Trojans came into the game to try and get above .500 for the first time this year.

The game throughout was a battle, and the momentum kept switching sides. The score was tied after the first with a score of 14-14 and the knights had the momentum going into the second quarter. Kuemper took the lead by the end of the half 32- 26. Atlantic let the Knights enjoy lead through the halftime break but in the third the Trojans outscored Kuemper 22-16. Going into the fourth quarter the game was tied at 48 and Atlantic was looking to finish it off for their fourth win of the season. The Trojans battled hard but 2 points was the deciding factor and the Knights came away with a 62-60 win, handing the trojans their fourth loss of the season.

Senior center Scott Leonard led the team finishing with 21 points shooting 10 for 14 and came down with 8 rebounds on the night. Senior guard Austin Alexander recorded 12 points, shooting two for four from behind the three point line and three assists. Junior guard Chase Mullenix recorded 11 points going five for eight from the free throw line, one steal and one block.

Atlantic’s next game will be tomorrow, Dec. 21, against the St. Albert Falcons in the Atlantic High School gymnasium.
