Tuesday, Nov. 29. The Atlantic Trojans boys basketballs kicked off their season in the home opener against the Winterset Huskies. The Trojans, coming off a 19-6 season and a state birth come into the season looking for another trip to Wells Fargo Arena this year.

In the first quarter the Trojans jumped out to an 8-2 lead propelled by Senior Jaxson Eden’s corner three and two free throws. The surge didn’t last for long when Winterset fought back and ended the first quarter 16-14. The second quarter remained neck and neck and ended with the Huskies hitting a half court shot at the buzzer. Atlantic came out slow in the second half and the Winterset’s offense was to hard to stop. The Huskies outscored the Trojans 27-17 in the last two quarters and handed the Trojans their first loss of the season 59-46.

Junior Chase Mullenix was hot off the bench for the Trojans finishing with eight points, six for eight from the field, and a perfect five for five from the free low line. Senior and three year starter Austin Alexander finished with 10 points and 4-17 from the field.

Atlantic’s next matchup will be this Friday, Dec. 1. against the St. Albert Falcons in the St. Albert gymnasium.
