Girls’ Basketball Earns their First Win of The Season

The Atlantic Trojans girls basketball team traveled to Clarinda to take on the Cardinals. Atlantic entered the game with a 0-14 record while the Cardinals are 3-9.

The Trojans and Cardinals were close until halftime. The Trojans were down by 2 leading into the third quarter. The 2nd half was Atlantic’s half, Clarinda was held to 4 points in the 3rd and 9 in the fourth. The Trojans ended the game coming away with the win 41-29.

Sophomore Baylee Newell had another outstanding game accounting for 17 points while Senior Catherine Leonard finished with 11 points. Newell’s 17 added to her season point total which made it 115 and Leonard still leads the team with 154 points.

The Trojans came away with their first win of the season and are looking to carry the momentum into their next game against Treynor. Atlantic will take on the Cardinals, Monday, Jan 23. The game will be at the Atlantic high school gymnasium.
