***UPDATE***

In light of the recent Yik Yak posts, principal Heather McKay was interviewed this morning in regards to what happened and what was being done in response. Though McKay could not reveal much information at the time of the interview, an official press release was posted this afternoon by the Atlantic Police Department.

In the release, it was stated that the police were made aware of a “veiled threat on social media.” Though the threat was not specific and was later labeled with a credibility level of zero, officers still treated it with caution. They identified a local 16-year-old male behind the message within about two hours of receiving the first report. The juvenile was taken into custody. Precautions were taken to contain the situation and verify that there was no evidence of a potential threat. Officers are communicating with the County Attorney and state authorities on further action.
