The Atlantic Trojan girls tennis team is hoping for a good outcome for the 2016 season. Although there are some young and inexperienced new faces they look to improve and have a great year.

Head coach Mike McDermott said, “I like our attitude and overall effort so far this season in practice. We look forward to competing in the premiere conference of SW Iowa, the Hawkeye 10.”

There are currently 12 girls out with #1 and #2 juniors Jena Brosam and Olivia Davis who are some key players to watch out for. McDermott said some players he thinks will improve the most are sophomore Heather Freund, juniors Alexis Boes, Carly Westphalen and Kyja Arnold.

Brosam said “Everyone is very supportive of each other, and all 3 coaches help try to motivate us to get better and do our best at practice everyday.” Davis said some weakness and strengths of the team are that they are inexperienced but “very supportive of each other.”

The team is looking for a Hawkeye 10 dual win and hopes to have a very good showing at the Hawkeye 10 conference meet. The girls will be opening up their season with a dual at Kuemper Catholic High school at 4:30 p.m. on Tues, April 5.
