The boys basketball team took charge in their season opener against the Winterset Huskies, beating them 84-46 on Tuesday, Dec.1, at home.

The boys are hoping to have a great season this year, returning their two top scorers: Garrett Franken and Ryan Hawkins.

Franken was hot from the 3-point line going 5 for 6 and totalling 24 points by the end of the game. Hawkins also had a good night, scoring 24 points while also grabbing four offensive rebounds and eight defensive rebounds.

Atlantic held control all night, hitting what seemed like 3-pointer after 3-pointer and also making their post shots.

Scott Leonard scored 11 points from the center position. Leonard’s only missed shot was a free throw, but was perfect on all other scoring attempts.

Austin Alexander also had a noteworthy game, scoring 12 points in his first varsity start.  Senior Kyle Nelson totaled up 3 points and 3 assists.
