Event begins with boys’ open practice at 5 p.m. Team introductions and competitions start at 6:30.

Saturday Night: Trojan Winter Sports Kickoff

All eyes will be on Trojan winter sports Saturday night, Nov. 21, as hosts the Winter Sports Kickoff.  Basketball, wrestling, swimming and cheerleading will participate in evening events.  

According to AHSFuel adviser Dan Vargason, a free-will donation for admission will go to Coaches Vs. Cancer. Duke Aerial will match all donations.

The Trojan boys’ practice will be open to the public from 5-6:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21.

The evening starts at 5 p.m. with an open boys’ basketball practice. The public is invited to watch the Trojans go through their drills. “There will be scrimmages and will just be a regular practice,” said sophomore basketball player Ben Renaud.

“The public will be there to support our team,” said Dillon Sonntag.

At 6:30 the winter sports teams will be introduced. These include boys and girls basketball, wrestling, and cheerleading.

Next will be a series of competitions:

Boys’ dunk contest – People possibly competing in the dunk contest: Ryan Hawkins, Kyle Nelson, Alec Hayes, Garrett Franken, Scott Leonard, Brendan Holmes and Grant Podhajsky.

Girls’ 3-point contest – Assistant coach Emma Walker is putting her money on Erin Olsen or Skye Thompson.

Boys’ 3-point contest

Champion (boys vs. girls) 3-point contest  – A traveling trophy made by woods teacher Derek Bair will be presented to the winner.

The evening will conclude with a staff basketball game. Walker said Tina Franken (AHS paraeducator and mother of Garrett Franken) is “lacing up her basketball shoes.”  Walker, who will also play, said, “I’m really excited for her.”
