The Price of Beautiful Dancing
Show Choir expenses add up.

Dancing isn’t cheap. In fact, the new dresses purchased for the Premiere Show Choir this fall cost $200 apiece, which was $6000 for 30 dresses.
According to choir director Jennifer Gaesser, new dresses are bought every four years. The dresses were ordered around the beginning of the school year and got here at the beginning of November.
The cost of participation for each Diversity member is $50, and for a Premiere member it’s $75. This includes costume rental fee and t-shirt costs.
Each girl will need character shoes that cost about $17-31. Cost for make-up and hairspray total is about $50.
The guys’ outfits are $35-40. Gaesser said, “We haven’t gotten them yet, waiting for some sales to happen.”
In addition to costumes, the music itself must be purchased. For one piece of music it’s about $2.25, but take that times 100 people and it adds up pretty quickly.
The money comes from the choir activities budget. Gasser said the department also receives some from the gates at choral events.
