Last Friday, March 20, the boys track team kicked off their season at their first track meet at Central College. The boys placed 8th out of 19 teams.
Head coach Alan Jenkins said overall the team did some nice things. “I thought (senior) Robby Bodine, (sophomore) Drake Roller, and (freshman) Gratt Reed did a nice job of all qualifying for the finals in the 55 meter hurdles,” said Jenkins. Bodine placed 9th and Reed placed 10th.
Bodine said, “Personally I didn’t do the best, I could do better. I think we did pretty well as a team considering it was our first meet.”
Jenkins also said, “(Junior) Alec Hayes and (senior) Joey Walker will continue to do great things for us in high jump.” Hayes placed 4th and Walker placed 7th.
“One of the more impressive results was our 4×200 team (Bodine, Reed, freshman Dillon Sonntag, and junior Brendan Holmes) finishing 3rd and the 4×400 (Bodine, Reed, Sonntag, and Holmes) finishing 6th,” said Jenkins.
A few other impressive races was (freshman) Dillon Sonntag who placed 4th in the 400 meter dash, (sophomore) Phoenix Shadden who placed 4th in the 3200 meter run, and (freshman) Jaxon Eden placing 6th in the 800 meter run.
Jenkins said, “We are going to continue on developing our distance runners and fine tune some of the technique that goes into the throws, jumps, and hand-offs. Overall I thought it was good meet to get the year started with.”
The next boys track meet is Tuesday, March 31 against the North H-10 division at Denison High School.
