A home-field advantage in the Trojan Bowl and a psyched atmosphere helped the Trojans dominate the Monarchs last Friday night, 25-20. Senior Joey Walker rallied all three first half touchdowns.

Assistant coach Drew Duff said, “The effort and attitude was high and good, we eliminated turnovers and cleaned things up.”

Senior Tyler Thomas said, “We showed a lot more effort during practice that carried to the game, a home field advantage in the Trojan Bowl with a huge crowd. The atmosphere kept us going.” Senior Skyler Svoboda said, “As a team, we were more mentally focused. I don’t think we ever put our heads down. As a line, we got lower and we blocked to the whistle; we were more physical.”

In the second half, senior Robby Bodine had an interception that he ran for a 63-yard touchdown to bring the Trojans to a 25-12 lead. Players that stood out include Svoboda, Walker, and seniors Nick Podhajsky and Brody Peterson. “Skyler had some good blocks, the lineman did a good job, Brody ran hard, Nick had some nice catches, and obviously Joey with three touchdowns,” said Duff.

According to junior Brendan Holmes, the team ran the ball hard and they made tackles and big plays that were needed. Improving for this week’s game at Glenwood, the team will need less penalties.

The Trojans (1-1) travel to Glenwood to take on the 1-1 Rams on Friday night, the game begins at 7:30 p.m. The theme for students will be ‘America’ (red, white and blue) in honor of 9/11 on Thurs.
