Prom Just a Few Months Away

Prom Just a Few Months Away

By Miranda Olson

With April just around the corner, many juniors and seniors will be going on an ultimate search for the perfect prom dress, along with sparkling earrings and dazzling shoes. At Atlantic High School, prom is designed as a black tie event to bring the junior and senior class together. Grand march takes place before the dance, and gives the community a chance to catch a glimpse of the beautiful dresses each year, but what will be the dress style of 2014?

Junior Erin Shannon bought her prom dress three months in advance at David’s Bridal. When walking through the doors, Shannon had an idea of what she wanted, but when she tried on the “icy blue, strapless, floor-length ruffled dress with a jeweled upper bodice,” she knew it was the right one! Shannon is also “excited to have a fun time with her date, see everybody’s dresses, and to decorate for the dance.”

Junior Lindsay Keltch has a light colored dress in her mind. Her perfect prom dress “has a sparkly upper body and is slim, rather than poofy.” Keltch feels as if “the juniors should have slim and less exciting dresses, while the seniors have gorgeous and poofy dresses since it is their last prom.”

Senior Joey Nielsen, who is also excited for prom, has not yet bought her dress, but has the perfect idea of what she wants. Nielsen’s date, Harison Richter, has his tux picked out, and her dress is a true match. She described it as “a light blue, strapless, long dress that is sparkly and straight on the top and poofs out with ruffles toward the bottom.”

Prom will be held on April 5, 2014 in the high school gym.  The junior class voted on the 2014 prom theme on Friday, Jan. 17 in the media center.
