On Tuesday night, the ACSD board of directors listed the names of seven teachers who will be retiring.
After thirty-four years as a resource teacher, Gary DeArment is retiring from teaching at AHS. DeArment says his plans for after retirement are to sleep in until nine, eat lunch uninterrupted, workout at the YMCA and turn into a buff old guy. He also looks forward to playing with his seven grandchildren.
DeArment says he collects St. Louis baseball cards as his hobby. He hopes to get to some games in St. Louis.
One of DeArment’s old students from Massena High School in 1987- 1988, Brian Lank, says, “He is a down to earth, nice guy, doesn’t take crap from anybody.”
One of DeArment’s current students, Megan Pross, says, ”It’s sad because I won’t have a fun teacher to have around.”
At this time, DeArment is the only AHS teacher to have announced plans for retirement. Additional teachers from the middle school and Schuler include the following:
Sue Hunt
Dennis Anderson
JoAnne Runyan
Dick McLaren
Sherry Sieck
Todd Roecker

Kudos to all of the retiring teachers and the positive impact they have had on the Atlantic Community School district.
