Atlantic Boys Golf Dominates Denison

By Cooper Zablocki

The Atlantic Boys Golf Team shot a 141 yesterday at their home course.  They defeated Denison by 20 strokes.  Evan Schuler was the medalists, shooting three under par, with a final score of 31.  The next scores for Atlantic included a 36 from Cooper Zablocki and two 37s by Jake Olsen and Kyle Nelson.  The team was a total of five over par, perhaps the most impressive statistic of their round.  Sam Renaud came in at a 39 and Zac Stork shot a 40.  Schuler continues his under par streak and lowers his average nine hole score down to a 32.0.  Atlantic beat their best home score last year by seven strokes.  The boys scored a total of eight birdies in their round.  One included a chip-in from Nelson on the last hole.  Another was Schuler’s last birdie which he drove the green on hole number eight.

Coach Ed Den Beste was “very excited” about the team’s score last night.  He thought the team played very well.  “Evan’s three under par is an incredible score.  Sam has it in his head that he won’t score well on the front.  I checked him on seven and he was six over.  I told him that he had two birdie holes left.  At least he finished with pars.  He made up his mind and got a stroke back with a birdie on nine to finish with 39,” said Den Beste.  “Zac also shot a good score of 40 but I know he was disappointed because of some three putts.  I know with time and experience he will lower his scores even more,” stated the coach.

The boys golf team plays Clarinda on Thurs. Apr. 24 at the Atlantic Golf and Country Club.  Then they travel to Dension for the Denison Invitational Saturday.  They have placed first in their opening two tournaments and are looking for another come Saturday.
