Boys first official practice is Mon., March 17 and athletes are working hard. Highlights of last season include: beating Denison in overtime, Senior Jacob Johnson scoring a goal against Kuemper and Senior Cal Heuton winning the shootout game twice in practice.
Junior Zach Brooks and Heuton’s goals for the season is to become team captains. Johnson is determined to score at least two goals. Johnson and Heuton’s team goal is to advance to the state tournament. Freshman Sam Barkley is hoping for a 9-5 record including playoffs.
Teams at the top of the list to beat are Underwood, Creston, L.C and Glenwood. Improvements the team plans on perfecting include: getting into shape, passing and working harder with the teammates.
The first game is Thurs., April 3 against Underwood at home. JV starts at 5 pm with varsity following at 6:30 pm. Good luck on the season boys!
The Trojans are hoping to make it further this season than last year. The Trojans fell just short of the state tournament in the semi-finals to Des Moines Christian 1-0. With only 2 mins left in the game, Des Moines Christian drove down the field and crossed the ball in scoring the only goal of the game. Sadly, at the end of the night the hope and dream of the Atlantic Boy’s soccer team on making school history came to a halt.
