After an intense hour of conflicting news reports Wednesday afternoon, most news sites are backing off initial reports that authorities had identified a suspect in the Boston Marathon bombing.
According to an ABC report at 1:45, sources said an arrest has been made. However, tweets from the Boston police department still said no arrest has been made, despite reports to the contrary.
Minutes later, the link to ABC news footage HERE backs off the assertion that an arrest has been made is premature.
The New York Times said the suspect is pictured in anĀ image on video that was captured shortly before the blast.
In an effort to break the story as soon as possible, news sites used phrasing such as “possible arrest imminent.” However, the FBI issued a strong criticism of media for posting unverified information.
