During quarantine, many people are binge watching shows and movies to fill free time.

We may be in quarantine and school may not go back in session, but do you know what will not leave you bored out of your mind during this mind-numbingly crazy historical moment? Movies and television. In no particular order, here are some of my favorites I have binged over the past few weeks.

(I will not be including the movies I have written reviews of.)

Criminal Minds

First off, I know a lot of people have been watching this show before and after quarantine began, but I started watching this series about a month ago and I’m already on season 9, almost 10. It is absolutely bonkers, honestly. It follows a group of FBI profilers on a quest to make the world a better place by putting bad guys in prison. It really makes you think about how many terrible people there are in the world.

Rating: 10/10 would recommend to anyone that likes crime shows

Available on Netflix (at least, 12 of the 15 seasons are)

Buffy the Vampire Slayer

I actually started watching this show in January-ish but I got back into it recently. This show is classified as a horror series but, personally, I would say it’s a better version of the book series “The Mortal Instruments.” Buffy Summers moves to Sunnydale, which is on top of something called a “Hellmouth” and that means there’s a crap ton of evil lurking about in every corner. Because it’s a show meant for teenagers in the late ‘90s and early ‘00s, there’s also some romance sprinkled in.

Rating: probably an 8.5/10 just because it’s a hardcore fantasy show and not everyone digs that

Available on Hulu

Literally Anything Star Wars

I have also been binging all of the Star Wars movies and related animated shows. I have finished “Clone Wars” and “Rebels.” I have also watched all of the movies. My personal favorite trilogy is the prequels but that is just because Obi-Wan Kenobi is by FAR my favorite character and he deserves everything good in the universe. The sequels, while entertaining, are pretty trash (sorry Kylo fans) and the prequels are better, if only by just a little bit. I am still mad about Padme.

Rating: 7.5/10 just because of the trashy way the filmmakers have been keeping the story straight

Everything is available on Disney+ except “Solo”

BoJack Horseman

I love this show so much, it is a little bit difficult to explain how much in words. It tackles issues not many shows do like abortion, depression, and drug abuse. This show has some crazy characters like BoJack Horseman who is a literal horse-man and alcoholic that treats his friends like crap. There’s also Todd Chavez who is a weirdo that has no goals in life and is just going with the flow. There’s also Princess Carolyn, a cat-lady that is BoJack’s agent. This show is definitely not kid-appropriate and is geared towards more adult viewers, but I still recommend it.

Rating: 9.5/10 I really don’t like BoJack, but I love Todd with my entire soul.

Available on Netflix

Any CW DC Superhero Show

Many people know The CW for the creation of “Supernatural,” which ran for 15 seasons. They also have a bunch of DC shows like “Arrow,” “The Flash,” and “Supergirl.” There’s more and they are all really good. I would recommend watching “Arrow” first, then “The Flash” followed by “Supergirl.” Definitely watch the crossover episodes in order though.

Rating: 10/10 because they’re all fantastic.

All are available on Netflix

Inglourious Basterds

“Inglourious Basterds” is my favorite Quentin Tarantino film by far. It is set in Nazi Germany and, like all Tarantino films, has two different storylines. One story follows a Jewish movie theater owner and her cinema. They end up having a Nazi movie screening in her theater. The second story is about Lt. Aldo Raine and I love both stories so much. There is also a ton of violence, as there usually is in Tarantino movies, and there’s a lot of speaking in different languages.

Rating: 9/10 but only because of the amount of subtitles in the film.

Available on Netflix

NCIS

This show is another crime series about a group called Naval Criminal Investigative Service and it’s pretty interesting. It follows Agent Gibbs, a forensic scientist named Abby Sciuto, a medical examiner named Ducky and others to find what happened to fallen soldiers. It’s another one of those shows that makes you think about all the bad things but it’s still fun to watch.

Rating: 8/10 because I haven’t watched a lot of it but I’ve watched a good amount.

Available on Netflix

Peaky Blinders

“Peaky Blinders” is about a gang in 1920s Birmingham. The gang commits many different crimes from tax evasion to murder, yet you still end up being on the side of the gang, rather than the side of law enforcement. At least, I did. This is probably one of my favorite shows on Netflix, and I was really sad when they announced that the production of the sixth season was going to be postponed due to COVID-19.

Rating: 10/10 obviously.

Available on Netflix

Bob Ross: Beauty Is Everywhere

Bob Ross is an icon for the people of my generation because of his fantastic vibes. You don’t even have to paint with him, you can just watch him paint. I think it’s very calming and fun to watch him. I’m sure it would be a really good way to kill time if you did paint with him and you would have some fun new things to hang on your walls around the house.

Rating: 10/10 because it’s Bob Ross

Available on Netflix

Locke & Key

“Locke & Key” stars Jackson Robert Scott who you may know as Georgie from the 2016 adeptation of “IT.” This series is another teen fantasy show but it is worth the watch. I enjoy the mind-bending episodes and the rebuilding of the family dynamic they once had. It is rated TV-14 so keep that in mind when watching.

Rating: 8/10 because I like some of the other stuff on the list better but this is still very enjoyable

Available on Netflix
