Sam Elliott having a heart to heart with Rebecca Harrell Tickell.

Day Nine: “Prancer”

The 1989 film “Prancer” stars the man who is more cowboy than any country singer, Sam Elliott (who also starred in “Roadhouse,” released that same year) along with Rebecca Harrell Tickell. “Prancer” is the story of a little girl (Tickell) who sees a reindeer while sledding and convinces herself it’s Santa Clause’s. Later on, she sees it while she’s with her dad (Elliott) and the reindeer is hurt. She then makes it her mission to take care of it.

I finally found a Christmas movie that does not have an underlying romantic plot and it is actually pretty good. I really didn’t know what to expect from an ‘80s Christmas movie, but this movie was not it. Although, the little girl, Jessie, could be kind of a wacko at times. Her friendship with Carol Weatherby seemed a bit toxic. Jessie’s toxicity was mostly because of her trust issues, which is really weird because they’re nine, so they should not have to practically beg one another to stay friends. At that point, just don’t be friends anymore.

This movie is available on Hulu.
