Dani Mathisen
Dani Mathisen, a junior at AHS, is an editor for the school newspaper AHS Needle and a co-creator of the senior magazine. Mathisen is writing 20 senior spotlight stories this semester. In her free time, she likes to cuddle with her four dogs and watch movies. “I’m a big movie fanatic,” she said. Something unique about Mathisen is she’s good at remembering birthdays, and also enjoys “mellow music.” Mathisen said she originally joined journalism to take photos. “As time went by, I liked the aspect of writing more,” she said. Last summer she attended Media Now Camp at Drake University which grew her interest in writing. Going to the camp helped Mathisen step out of her comfort zone as well as make new connections with people outside of school. Mathisen said she has grown a lot as a person and writer since joining journalism. “Journalism has helped me improve my time management skills, and my social ability to speak with others.” She plans to attend Morningside College or Grandview University and major in nursing. Mathisen would like to be a travel nurse because, “(She) wants to travel the world, and see different cultures while helping others at the same time.”
