AHS matmen snag second at Riverside

The Atlantic Trojans took second place in the Riverside Wrestling Tournament on Saturday, Dec. 8.  Twelve teams competed in this large all-day tournament. Woodbury/Central (WC) won the event with 194.5 points, followed by Atlantic with 152, and Woodbine at third with 136. Other teams competing included Avoca-Shelby-Tenant(AHST), Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton (EEHK), Griswold, Logan-Magnolia (LoMag), Oakland Riverside, Papillion, Saint Albert, Savannah, and Shenandoah.

The Trojans had four finalists, three of whom were crowned champion. The champions included Darrian Schwenke (113), Reid Nichols (138), Matt Williamson (182). Dillion Cox came in second place at 120.

All but two AHS wrestlers placed at this difficult 12-team tournament. Matt Smith (145), Call Heuton (160), and Tyler Stork (195) all took 4th, and freshman Austin Williamson finished with a win to earn 5th place.

To finish off the meet, Jordan Mauk (170) and Jez Phippen (285) took home 6th place medals.

Atlantic-CAM was open at the 106 and 152 pound weight classes.

The wrestlers travel to Carroll Kuemper this Tuesday for their final dual meet before Christmas break.
