Cold season, warm hopes

Junior Zach Smith and Senior Matt Thielen are basketball players excited for the upcoming season.

by Paul Honke

Since the fall season has ended with an up-and-down record in sports, students and parents alike are wondering if the winter season will go according to plan.

The winter season for sports is coming for the students of Atlantic High School, and many people have high expectations for the wrestling and basketball season. It can be speculated that the winter season is the most exciting season of the year. Athletic director Josh Rassmussen has high hopes and expectations for boys wrestling and both basketball teams.

“In wrestling, we should be a strong team. We have many people from last year and I think we should do well.” Says Josh Rassmussen. “In boys and girls basketball we are a young team, but I think we will do well this season.

Josh Rassmussen is also looking forward to facing rivals such as Creston and Lewis Central for wrestling. Carrol, Harlan, and Lewis Central will be the rivals the basketball team will face.

Another sport that people often forget is swimming.  While swimming is not a school-sponsored event, several students participate through the YMCA swimming program.
