Atlantic Trojanns fall short to AL Lynx

By Hope Bowker

The Atlantic Trojanns lost their first basketball game of the season Tuesday night, falling 37-65 to the Abraham Lincoln Lynx in Council Bluffs.

Top scorer for the Trojanns was senior Shelby Worth, who put 12 points on the board, including two 3-pointers.

Junior Ashli Walker put up 9 points in her first game as a Trojann after playing with the Walnut Warriors last year.

Senior ReAnn Cappel also made a 3-point shot, as well as the final two free-throws of the game.

On the JV court, Atlantic fell 30-8.

The AHS freshmen pulled off a 51-46 victory. Freshman coach Natalie Ross said,”For having two weeks of practice the girls did a great job of executing everything they learned.”

The freshman point-guard Erin Olsen took an elbow to the eyebrow, requiring stitches, which meant she was out for the second half of the game. Ross said Skye Thompson and Tiffany Williams had to step in as primary ball handlers.

“Hopefully they got their first-game jitters out of the way,” said Ross.

The varsity Trojanns play at home three times next week, facing off against Carroll, ADM, and Glenwood on Monday, Tuesday, and Friday nights.
