The 2010-2011 girls basketball season started on Monday, Nov. 8, following a team meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 2.
The young Trojann team this year will be better both with talent and experience, head coach Casey Pelzer said. “Our biggest challenge this year is seven out of our 21 games are [ranked] in the top ten in the state, and being undersized again will not help,” said Pelzer. “One of the biggest things the basketball girls will need to work on is making the easy shots. Once again their solid defense will help with our defending.”
In previous years, southern teams in the Hawkeye Ten Conference (Clarinda, Shenandoah, Red Oak, Glenwood, Lewis Central, and Creston) would play the northern teams (Harlan, Denison, Atlantic, and Carroll) twice. A change this year is that the southern teams will only play the northern teams one time, which will count for two conference games. Coach Pelzer is against the rule, and says that other coaches are as well.
