Senior Tyler Hovey was the only AHS student to compete at the Drake Relay last week. Hovey qualified in both the shot put and discus. The shot put and discus competitions include the top twenty-four qualifiers from all schools.
Hovey finished fifth in shot and sixteenth in the discus. Hovey was the twenty-fifth discus thrower in the state last year missing an invitation to Drake by one-half inch.
Hovey did qualify for state last year and compared Drake to that experience. “It’s like a bigger meet as opposed to wanting to win state.”
