Choir Heads Into Busy Weekend

By: Josh Schorle
Music is in the air!  The AHS choirs will perform Friday night, Feb. 24, at 6:30 p.m., and the Premiere show choir will compete in Sioux City on the following day.Friday’s concert will feature songs such as “The Edge of Night,” “The Water is Wide,” “O Magnum Mysterium,” and “I Am But A Small Voice.” “I Am But A Small Voice” will be sung by a mass choir composed of members from all three choirs. This song will also feature some soloists. Sophomore Logan Welter said he’s a little nervous about singing his solo. Welter also commented that “It’s my first solo I’ve had at a high school level.”Junior Miranda Yarrington is happy to have a solo. Yarrington said, “I’m really nervous about getting up there and singing.”

Junior Emily Jacobsen, who will be singing a solo and playing a percussion instrument, said she’s nervous about her solo. “It’s a little difficult to multi task by playing drums & singing at the same time.“

Choir teacher Luke Johnson commented about the concert saying, “We are proud to show our growth as an ensemble to ourselves and to the audience.” Johnson explained that the concert was starting early at 6:30 “to accommodate our Premiere students who will have to leave in the morning for show choir.”

The Premiere show choir will travel to Sioux City on Saturday to compete at Bishop Heelan High School. They will be competing against Westwood, Lewis Central, Bishop Heelan, Pella, and Ralston.
