What is bow fishing?

Dear Fisherman,
Bow fishing is a good way to fish when the fish won’t bite, but they keep swimming by. My brother bow fishes and uses the same bow as when he deer hunts, but fastens a plastic reel on the front and uses a fishing arrow. The reel and arrows can be found at Bass Pro. The reel may cost up to $180 and the arrows about $17 each. It is a good idea to buy more than one arrow because they get stuck in the ground sometimes.

Bow fishing works the best in mid-summer around shallow water. After a rain is a bad time to go because the water will be muddy. Dams, shallow rivers, or run-off areas from lakes are all good places. Anytime of day works, but morning is best because it is cooler and the fish will be more active.
