The Atlantic Trojan wrestling squad placed third in yesterday’s class 2A state dual tournament in Des Moines. The third place finish is the highest in AHS wrestling history. The Trojans placed fourth last season at the duals tournament.
The sixth-seeded Trojans defeated third-seeded Denver-Tripoli 39-33 in the first round on Wednesday morning.
Atlantic ran into West Delaware in the semifinal round and were defeated 46-10.
The loss put the Trojans in the third-place match against the Creston Panthers Wednesday night.
With help from regulars and second-stringers (JV) the Trojans defeated the Panthers 43-25 to capture third-place.
Five of the Trojans wrestlers are competing in the individual state tournament that begins today (Thursday Feb. 16).
