Five Trojans wrestlers qualified for the 2012 Individual State Wrestling Tournament (Thursday, Feb. 16-Saturday, Feb. 18) .

Darrian Schwenke (106), Rob Young (132), Derek Stork (160), Matt Williamson (170), and Austin Conrad (285) qualified for the state tournament.

Schwenke trailed 4-0 after two periods in the 106-pound championship, but the sophomore turned the tables in the third period picking up a pin and the District Championship.

Senior Derek Stork battled Creston’s Trevor Frain to the final minute of the third period in the 160-pound championship, but Stork came up big with a takedown with under 30 seconds to go to come out off the mat victorious.

Junior Matt Williamson (CAM) defeated Cole Bonde of Bedford/Lenox, 4-1 in the 170-pound championship.

Senior Austin Conrad wrestled tough against top-rated Collin Bevins (Creston-O-M), but was pinned in the third period. Conrad did not have to wrestle again, clinching a spot in the State Tournament with the runner-up finish.

Rob Young had the toughest road out of the five that made it to state. Young made easy work of Shenandoah’s Joseph Heitshusen with an 11-0 victory. In the 132-pound championship, Young was pinned by Missouri Valley’s Walker Marshall with 56.9 seconds remaining in the first period.

Young had to wrestle again, stepping up and pinning Creston’s Jacob Johnston and earning second place at 132.

At 152, senior Rob Nichols lost 3-2 in the first round against Cody Morris (Bedford/Lenox). On the bottomside, Nichols pinned Ike Elscheid (JSPCEG), but senior David Thompson (Creston-O-M) defeated Morris in the championship, eliminating the wrestle back at 152.

At 182, junior Tyler Stork (CAM) had to fight back after a semi-final loss, but there was no wrestleback at 182 pounds.

Before the Individual State Tournament, the Trojans will compete in the 2A State Dual Tournament on Wednesday, Feb. 15. The Trojans wrestle Denver-Tripoli at 9 a.m. Wednesday morning.
