College?! Scholarships?! FAFSA?!

The clock is ticking and time is running out for seniors to make their final decisions. “What college?” “How will I pay for it?” and “Will I really like it here?” are questions running through twelfth-grade brains.

Senior Paige Kennon is on top of her game. “I’m going to University of Minnesota. My parents aren’t helping me so I’m going to have to get scholarships and a part-time job.”

Some kids are like Kennon, but others are still having trouble deciding where to go, what to do, and how to pay.

“I’ve visited UNI, ISU, and NWMS. But I haven’t decided if I want to go to Iowa, UNI, or NWMS,” said Alex Hartwig. “Thankfully my parents are helping me out, but I still plan on doing my FAFSA, filling out scholarships and possibly getting some loans.”

For students like Kennon and Hartwig, there is a meeting scheduled for seniors during seminar on Friday. Guidance counselors Heather Turpen and Craig Fredin will meet with the senior class to discuss scholarships students may be eligible for, how to fill them out, and how to submit them. FAFSA will also be in the discussion, as it is a very important part of financial aid for college.

Whether decided on a college or not, all seniors are required to attend.
