The Walnut School Board had a special meeting last night to discuss athletic sharing with AHST.
Without discussion, the board voted unanimously for the junior high students and high school boys to share with AHST. However, when it came to the high school girls, a lengthy discussion took place.
The girls had signed a petition and presented it to the board. This was one of the many discussion points considered. Other arguments to keep the athletics separate included the bonded relationship within the girls team, and a possibility of the girls loosing playing time if they shared with AHST.
Arguments in favor of sharing with AHST include the finances saved by not paying for a bus for the girls, a larger team presents the opportunity for the players to improve, and the fact that the girls play with AHST during junior high athletics so it would not be a big change.
After a 45-minute discussion, the board voted three against two, to share girls athletics with AHST.
