Ninth-grade honors students in Liz Huggins’ English class recently finished explaining life-changing situations through digital stories. According to Huggins a digital story is “a short, emotionally charged story that is told through the medium of images in video format that is enhanced by the story teller’s vocal narration. In other words, voice plus images equals impact.”Reid Nichols, Hannah McClean and Caleb Woodard have offered to share their stories with AHSneedle readers. Huggins appreciated the emotional impact of their stories.
Nichols and McClean wrote about their pets. Woodard’s story is about an experience confronting a bully.
Huggins said the purpose of the assignment was to help students think about images in a figurative manner instead of literally. This is her second year doing this project. In the past creative writing students have also produced digital stories.
Huggins said students enjoyed finding the images to go with their stories. However, McClean said finding images that reflected her imagination was difficult.
