Eleven AHS freshmen waited in anticipation for the results of the 2011 Opus Honor Choir Auditions Tuesday, Oct. 11.
By late afternoon music director Luke Johnson had delivered news of selection to Justin Somers and Halee Glenn. It was Somer’s and Glenn’s third year in a row making Opus.
Johnson said only 180 students across the entire state are selected for the prestigious choir. In addition to Somers (bass) and Glenn (alto), nine additional freshmen auditioned:
Tenors Reid Nichols, Zach Brooks and Ben parker; altos Cestra Dodson,Paige Anstey, Hannah Mclean, and Brecklyn Carey; and sopranos Grace Jacob and Erin Shannon.
To audition, Johnson said the eleven students learned challenging music pieces through out the quarter. They then had to record an audition tape of two excerpts of the music for the Opus board.
Opus Honor Choir will perform in Ames, Iowa.
