    Bomb Threat at AHS

High School pricipal Heather McKay would like to thank everyone for their cooperation regarding the bomb threat situation. After an inspection by the local fire department on Wednesday night, the school is very clean.

McKay would like to remind everyone that we are being proactive with the entire situation.

No bags or purses will be allowed at the high school today (Friday).

McKay would also like students to understand the charges behind a threat of this nature: part of Patriot Act, Terroristic. In Iowa the charges vary case by case from fines and prison time to other things.

Junior Emily Jacobsen commented on the situation, “I don’t see why students shouldn’t attend school (today). The administrators are doing everything they can to keep us safe. The no bag policy is just a precautionary measure that is needed to assure the safety of the student body. While some people might be frustrated with it, it is just one out of the 180 days of school.”

“I think it’s a great idea for our school to have the no bag policy,” sophomore Leah Tjepkes said, “Even though we think the whole school is “clean”, someone could still try to bring in something to the school and attempt to scare or even hurt people here at our high school.”

Senior Austen Farver said, “This event is going to be in my head for years to come.”

It’s just hard to believe that some random student would think it’s funny to vandalize the school in a way that would essentially put the school on “lock down”. It’s just very upsetting and immature.
