Trojans end football season with big win

by Dean Wood

The Atlantic Trojans ended their seasons with a forceful 42-20 win over the Red Oak Tigers Friday, Oct. 22. The Trojans took a commanding lead early on with their first touchdown by Parker Hoye just three minutes into the game. Sam Markham was next to score on a reverse play from Hoye to Christian Holzapfel. Later in a reverse trick play, Tyler Johnson scored the third touchdown. Before the second half, the Trojans scored two more times and the Tigers scored once. Going into the second half, Trojans led 35-7.

The Trojans continued to dominate throughout the third quarter scoring on an plunge by Phil Iekel from the one-yard line with 33 seconds left on the clock for a 42-7 lead. The Trojan junior varsity squad took the field during the fourth quarter.  The Tigers put 13 points on the board during the last twelve minutes to bring the final score of the night to 42-20.

Senior Philip Iekel commented on the last game of his high-school career: “Being the last game of the season, and the last game of my high-school career, I was happy with how we came out to play and took control of the game from the start.”  Iekel said that after the game seniors lined up and the coaches and players came through the line and shook their hands and hugged. “It was very emotional,” he said.
