Homecoming Court 2012

Homecoming Court 2012

By Zoe Krueger

Homecoming Court nominations were announced last week, and the curiosity talk of who will be the lucky two has begun. The Homecoming Court for 2012 is as follows: Taylor Barry, Amanda Delgado, Savannah Hoye, Paige Kennon, Ali Krogman, Sierra Larsen, Nora Walker,Breanna VonWeyhe, Gunnar Blum, Austin Conrad,  Christian Holzapfel, Ryan McDermott, Ian McNees, Rob Nichols, Derek Stork, and Ethan Westering.

What characteristics are considered when voting for fellow classmates? Students interviewed they voted for those they thought were clear leaders, who are nice to other students, who are actively involved in school activities, who are “ruthless.”  Some said they voted for students whom they thought would be good representatives of the senior class. With the entire class narrowed down to the top 16 choices, all students in grades 9-12 are invited to vote in the king and queen election homecoming week.

The nominated students said the nomination process went smoothly, without complaints. Nominees shared that they were glad to have been shown everyone’s name on a clear list, and that the number of votes was easy to work with. They also stated how the fact that seniors nominate from their grade works well since the individuals in the class know each other best.

Many of the candidates feel honored for the nomination and would like to share their gratitude to those who voted. To Austin Conrad and Rob Nichols, being nominated means “the world.” To Taylor Barry it means she’s “keeping it in the family,” since her mother was crowned Homecoming Queen in 1976.  Ryan McDermott is glad to be able to experience the other side of the “whole ordeal” since he’d been “voting and watching for the last three years.”

Candidates will be introduced during Seminar time during Homecoming Week.
