On the first day at state track, May 20, the Atlantic Trojan and Trojann track teams medaled in three events.
To start out the day, junior Paige Kennon threw 102′ 3″ in the discus. The junior placed 21 in the event.
In the girl’s 4X100 meter shuttle hurdle relay, the team of Kennon, junior Amanda Gude, sophomore Mackenzie Holmes, and junior Sam McConnell, ran 1:12.41. The team placed 21 in the preliminaries and failed to qualify for the finals.
In the 3000 meter run, junior Ali Krogman ran 10:40.09 placing fifth and picking up four points for the Trojanns. Krogman broke her own school record by eight seconds. Also, the top three times in the event broke the class 3A state record previously set in 2008. First-place finisher senior Alana Enabnit of Clear Lake ran 9:58.45 breaking the record by nearly 14 seconds.
In the girls 4×800 meter relay, senior Jessi Arneson, junior Sam Peterson, Krogman, and junior Alex Hartwig managed to win the first heat in 9:54.47. The team was also able to pick up a point by placing eighth overall in the event.
In the boys 4×800 meter relay ran 8:16.58 and placed 16 in the event. The senior laden team of senior Parker Hoye, senior Trevor Knuth, senior Luke Karamitros, and junior Blake Esbeck, dropped seven seconds from their district time and missed eighth place by 13 seconds.
In the preliminaries of the 200 meter dash, junior Melanie Nielsen ran 26.67 seconds to place 10 in the event. The Trojann junior missed the cut-off by eleven hundredths of a second.
Junior Tyler Hovey placed eighth in the discus on Thursday. Hovey threw 151 feet and 4 inches. Hovey’s eighth place finish picked up the one point for the Trojans.
The Trojanns finished day one with 5 points and the Trojans finished with 1 point.
The girls 4×200 meter relay and the 4×400 meter relay team run on Friday. For the boys, sophomore Dalton Franken competes in the long jump and Hovey competes in the shot put.
