Students and teachers share thoughts on 9/11 and bin Laden

By Paul Honke
The September 11 attacks devastated many Americans. To this day the attacks have not been forgotten or forgiven. However, a shining light has appeared over the victims’ families. The mastermind behind the 9/11 plot is now gone forever.

On Sunday May 1, 2011, an undercover American Navy Seals team was sent to Pakistan to capture or kill Osama Bin Laden: they succeeded. On this day many people rejoiced that one of the biggest threats to America was dead. Unfortunately the crimes he has committed will not be forgotten.

The 9/11 attacks shocked the world. Adults who heard about the attacks were terrified, while students and children only looked on in confusion. Ten years later those children more fully understand the attacks.

“I was in my house during the [9/11] attack,” said senior Jessica Fudge. “When I heard about it I was scared.”

“I was in the classroom when the attacks happened. At first I didn’t really understand,” said sophomore Timothy Archibald.

“I was waking up to go to kindergarten and saw the attacks on the news.” said freshman Vincent Lovell.

When asked about Osama bin Laden’s death, Archibald had this to say: “USA, USA, USA, USA.”

Teachers also shared their thoughts on when they heard about the 9/11 attacks and bin Laden’s death, such as Angela Hannigan.

“I was in a college class at Dordt College when the 9/11 attacks happened. I was shocked,” said Hannigan. “When I heard that Osama died I kind of doubted it at first.”
