On Tuesday, April 12, senior Luke Karamitros broke the Atlantic High School school record for the 1600 meter race. “Its a 64 year record so that’s pretty cool,” Karamitros said
Karamitros broke Mick Anderson’s 64-year record.
Karamitros ran the 1600 in 4:30.86 at the Harlan Invitational. Anderson ran it in 4:31.9 back in 1947.
After breaking the record, Karamitros doesn’t feel completely accomplished and hopes to reach even higher goals during the remainder season. “I really want to make it to Drake (Drake Relays) in the 4 by 8 (4 x 800 meter race) and the mile. (Another goal is) Eventually placing at state in both of those races as well.”
