The Atlantic Trojan boys soccer team hosted the AHST Vikings on Friday for the first game of the 2011 season. The Trojans defeated the Vikings 2-1.
With the win, the Trojans jump out to a 1-0 record for the young campaign.
In the first half, sophomore Harrison Hoegh scored the opening goal for the Trojans after a throw-in from junior Derek VonSeggern. The Vikings responded with a goal of their own to tie the game, 1-1 heading into the halftime break.
Freshman Michael Thomsen scored the winning goal in the second half off an assist by his older brother, senior Daniel Thomsen.
“I was pretty excited that I scored the goal,” Michael Thomsen said, “I just hoped we could hold them the rest of the game.”
The Trojans were able to keep the score right where it was for the rest of the game, to win 2-1.
Senior goalie Brad Schwenke stopped 10 of the 11 Viking shots during the game.
The Trojans host the Lewis Central Titans on Tuesday, April 5.
