See some new faces in the halls? Student council members from Harlan Community High School are attending school in Atlantic today.
“It is exciting, and you guys have a lot of different opportunities here at AHS,” says Harlan High School senior Amber Carl.
The AHS student council traveled to Harlan for a day on Feb. 22. “It was a good experience,” says AHS junior Ian Mcnees. “I do like our school better, but it was fun exchanging ideas about our student councils.”
There are differences between the Harlan and Atlantic schools. According to sophomore Rachel Paully, class sizes in Harlan are bigger. The class periods are shorter, but Harlan students have longer days. The ninth period of the day is set aside for sports. This allows students to start practice earlier and finish by 5:00 or 5:30. Harlan students who do not participate in sports have study hall during the ninth class period.
